Sunday 3rd June
"Rock the Yard at the Leixlip Festival"
The Riptide Movement
Back to headline the Leixlip Festival on Sunday 3rd June 2018 is the hugely popular The Riptide Movement. Having blown the Irish music scene wide open in 2014 with their gold-selling album "Getting Through", which lead to a string of Top Ten singles, this Summer sees The Riptide Movement undertake a Coast to Coast Tour of Ireland. The tour will involve the band performing their inimitable full live show at a number of coastal venues around the island of Ireland, while also spreading the message that our beaches, coastlines, rivers, cities and towns need to be kept litter and plastic free if society is to help prevent our oceans from becoming even more polluted by the unsustainable level of plastic waste which is currently finding its’ way into our seas.
This summer series of gigs and festival appearances in coastal areas marks the beginning of a broader campaign being embarked on by the band around this environmental issue with the planned summer release of their next single (Plastic Oceans) which the band just recently recorded in London with producer Chris Coady (Future Islands / Slowdive).
Having also signed a global publishing deal with IMAGEM / CONCORD Music in 2017, the band are well poised to continue to build on the international success of recent hits; All Works Out, Elephant in The Room and Changeling
The Riptide Movement are four lifelong friends from Lucan and so are considered locals and are sure to have a huge following yet again at this year's Leixlip Festival.
Supporting The Blizzards on the Saturday of the Leixlip Festival are Brave Giant. They are an Indie/Folk band from Longford, who have been blazing a trail across Ireland in the past two years. Their new single, Dakota, follows October 2017’s No1 Way To Love. Brave Giant has received some wonderful support from Irish radio since their first commercial single (Lordy Lordy, in 2016). The Time I Met the Devil single from 2017 has enjoyed almost 100,000 views alone (featuring Irish actor and comedian, Joe Rooney) adding to the band’s impressive overall tally of 1,000,000 online video views. It’s the song that also resulted in a Late Late Show invite last spring for the boys!
2017, built perfectly on the band’s growing list of followers. The band celebrated their first official No 1 on iTunes, played to an enthusiastic, and large band of followers (and some new fans too) on their debut Longitude outing, sold out a number of regional headline Irish shows, together with making a trip stateside for the Milwaukee Irish Festival, and a headline show in Rockwood Music Hall in New York. The year concluded with Brave Giant playing their biggest headline Dublin show to date at The Academy. It was the band’s 6th consecutive headline-show to sell out in the capital.
Previously, winning joe.ie’s Le Crunch competition, joining Gavin James and Roisin O as musical ambassadors for Bord na Móna’s inaugural #HearthSessions campaign together with being invited to guest with Picture This still remain highlights since 2016. Their love of Irish music is evident in their sound, a skilfully achieved blend of rock, folk and alternative influences.
